Pedestrians, motorcyclists and cyclists are among the most vulnerable road users in Dhaka and Chattogram, Bangladesh due to lack of adherence to motor vehicle speed limits.
Encouraging drivers to comply with established speed limits and authorities to enforce them can save lives.
Launched by Dhaka and Chattogram city corporations on Bangladesh’s National Road Safety Day and World Remembrance Day for Road Traffic Victims, “Let’s Slow Down” aimed to raise awareness of the motor vehicle speed-limit guidelines and encourage drivers to comply with established speed limits. Running on social media, websites and digital billboards, the campaign featured a testimonial from a woman who lost her husband and his friend in a speeding-related crash in Dhaka. It was supported by police departments and transport authorities, and the National Transport Agency agreed to include a campaign PSA in its mandatory new driver licensing course.
